LACY POOL was founded by German pianist Uwe Oberg. With an intriguing lineup with the Berlin-based clarinettist Rudi Mahall and
drummer Michael Griener, the band explores different styles in Steve Lacy’s music and Oberg’s originals. It’s a joyful celebration as well as an deconstruction, that transfers the Lacy’s compositions into the present.

On Lacy Pool, an intriguing lineup (piano-trombone-drums) revistist what might one day become standards – 10 compositions penned
by Steve Lacy. Uwe Oberg’s angular lines, Christof Thewes‘ soaring trombone and drummer Michael Griener’s clever support help
bring out the joy that inhabits those pieces. Their truculent nods at Dixieland or Thelonious Monk are a reminder of how both influences
informed the late soprano sax player’s development. They never get lost in a meditative state, because Oberg and company’s mood is

The German pianist Uwe Oberg (*1962/Offenbach) develops his music from the energy of Jazz and the sound of the New Music. „Oberg is
one of the most interesting free players of the younger generation“. ( Michael Rieth/Frankfurter Rundschau)
Since the eary 1980ies he plays in various musical contexts between Jazz and Improvised music, with different ensembles or as a soloist.
Currently he leads his own Trio/Quartet, where he plays his own compositions as well as pieces by Thelonious Monk and others.
Trio CUSH w SAADET TÜRKÖZ and PAUL LOVENS. Duo w EVAN PARKER, Trio w FRANK PAUL SCHUBERT & GUENTER BABY SOMMER.
He works with dancers, composes music for theatre and silent movies. He played with numerous international musicians, like ALFRED
HARTH,PETER KOWALD, XU FENGXIA, MATTHIAS SCHUBERT, PHILIPPE MICOL, ULI PHILLIPP, TONY OXLEY, SVEN-AKE JOHANSSON,

RUDI MAHALL Bb- & bassclarinet
born1966 in Nuremberg, lives in Berlin.
Studied classical clarinet, contemporary music and improvisation. Bands: DER ROTE BEREICH, DIE ENTTÄUSCHUNG, MONK’S CASINO, FOSSILE 3, FUSK, SQUAKK. Numerous projects and CDs with AKI TAKASE (on Eric Dolphy, Fats Waller a.o.), with CHRISTOF THEWES (SQUAKK, QUARTETTO PAZZO). He recorded the complete works of Thelonious Monk‘ with ALEXANDER V. SCHLIPPENBACH, besides he played / plays with: GLOBE UNITY ORCHESTRA, BARRY GUY, KENNY WHEELER, RAY ANDERSON, LEE KONITZ, CHRISTOF THEWES a.m.o.
International concerts. Rudi Mahall received the SWR-Jazzpreis in 2011.

MICHAEL GRIENER drums
born in Nuremberg, Germany in 1968, drums since 1982, lives in Berlin since 1994.
Under the influence of the HOHE-UFER-concerts initiated by Guenter Christmann he became involved early on in the various forms of
Jazztradition,Free Improvisation and New Music, which led to a longer collaboration with Christmann in his Vario-projects.
He has worked frequently with dancers (a.o. Anzu Furukawa, David Zambrano), actors and poets (most recently in a project on Paul Celan with
german writer Oskar Ansull) and teaches drums at the Musikhochschule Dresden.
His duo KIMMO ELOMAA with electronic wizard jayrope received a grant by the city of Berlin in 2002
He won the Jazzpreis Mannheim as the best soloist in 2006.

OLTA ZACH 3.0 | Vernissage | Villa For Forest

Villa For Forest, Viktringer Ring 21, 9020 Klagenfurt Die Ausstellung Olta Zach 3.0: Andere Ansichten, die vom 14.01. bis 18.02. in der Villa For Forest zu sehen ist, bietet Jungkünstler*innen aus dem Raum Kärnten eine neue Ausstellungsfläche, um ihre Kunst zu präsentieren. Mit dieser Ausstellung, die eine Kooperation zwischen den Kunst- und Kultur-vereinen „IWA“ und „Innenhofkultur“ ist, sollen junge Künstler*innen mit ihren anderen Ansichten in den Mittelpunkt gestellt werden. Es werden primär Werke aus den Bereichen Malerei und Fotografie ausgestellt.
Das Hauptziel dieser Ausstellung ist es, jungen Künstler*innen eine Plattform zu bieten. Insgesamt sind Werke von 20 Personen zu sehen. Am 14.01. findet die Vernissage statt. Es ist bereits das dritte Mal, dass eine Ausstellung in dieser Form stattfindet. In dieser Ausstellung sollen die Blickwinkel junger Künstler*innen auf die Welt gezeigt werden, die man sonst nicht zu sehen bekommt – ihre an-deren Ansichten.

Villa For Forest, Viktringer Ring 21, 9020 Klagenfurt Demiurg ist ein zeitgenössisches Theaterstück über Kontrolle, Entfremdung und Selbstverlust im Zeitalter digitaler Dauerablenkung.
Ein Mensch – eingeschlossen in einem gläsernen Schaukasten – steht einem allmächtigen Demiurgen gegenüber, der ihn beobachtet, provoziert und manipuliert.
Zwischen beiden entspinnt sich ein existenzielles Duell über Freiheit, Selbstbestimmung und den Preis der Betäubung durch Technik, Routine und Medien.
Was bleibt, wenn alle Ablenkung verstummt?
Ein Stück über die Zerbrechlichkeit des modernen Selbst – zwischen Voyeurismus, Kontrollwahn und der Sehnsucht, wieder zu fühlen.

“What about the Verse”

Herzlich willkommen zu einem besonderen Abend voller musikalischer Entdeckungen!

Heute Abend präsentieren die talentierten Studierenden der Jazz Vocal Klasse von Caroline de Rooij ihre einzigartigen Interpretationen ausgewählter jazz-standards mit “ Verse”.

In den 1940er Jahren gehörten diese “Verses” zum Lied dazu und im Laufe der Zeit wurde manche verses kaum noch gespielt

Die Studierenden haben gründlich recherchiert und teilweise ganz alte Verses transkribiert.

Mit Leidenschaft und Kreativität bringen die Studierenden diese oft übersehenen Werke auf die Bühne, unterstützt von der wunderbaren Karen Asatrian und der GMPU Jazz Band. Freut euch auf ein abwechslungsreiches Programm, das die Tiefe und Schönheit des Jazz in all seinen Facetten widerspiegelt.

Intentional & Random: a festival | Villa For Forest

Villa For Forest, Viktringer Ring 21, 9020 Klagenfurt Join us for an evening of music that explores the boundaries of sound and performance.

Beginning at 18:30, the event will open with a collaborative sound installation Quotidian Reminiscence in the garden of Villa for Forest. The sonic positions of the installation are distributed across the outside space, inviting listeners to roam around and encounter dialogues among eight micro-compositions that capture moments of habitual personal contexts. The installation will remain active throughout the entire event, providing an immersive sonic backdrop to three distinctive concerts. At 19:30, the first concert features a new work by Klagenfurt-based composer Bastien Brännland, alongside Matthew Schlomowitz's Letter Piece #5: Northern Cities, for two players performing music, actions, and text; Alban Berg’s 4 Stücke, Op. 5, which delves into virtuosic atonality through extended techniques such as flutter-tonguing and extreme dynamics; and John Zorn’s seminal "game piece" Cobra, where performers shape the music in real time through cues and gestures. The 20:30 concert showcases Julius Eastman's minimalist masterpiece Stay On It – a work by a composer whose brilliant contributions were almost completely lost but have recently achieved high acclaim – paired with Peter Ablinger's noise piece Nanophony for soft sounds and loud amplification. The final concert at 21:30 will conclude the evening with an experimental improvisation designed and performed by a quintet of composer-performers, sympathetically agitated by Christopher A. Williams.

From the opening collaborative sound installation to the final improvisation set, Intentional & Random promises a unique journey through sound, intermedia and performance. Whether you're a seasoned experimental music enthusiast or a curious first-time listener, this event offers a unique opportunity to explore the frontiers of musical expression.
