A pianist, composer and producer, Rok Zalokar is an integral part of the Ljubljana alter-jazz scene. He led his jazz piano trio for a decade, combining spiritual jazz-electronica with Zhlehtet collective, while continuing to develop a personalised solo piano expression.
His work didn’t go unnoticed, besides regularly playing festivals, Rok was awarded with the Jazzon composition award and the prestigious Erasmus Jazz Prize. He is coming to Villa for Forest to present his debut electroacoustic album “Speak your body”.
The music material comes from different sources – sound sculpting, beat-making, spontaneous sessions and moments of exploration with a given instrument, which he unified through a surrealist cut-up narrative. The music has a strong foundation in synths and piano sounds, but each song features different instrumentation, modern orchestration, jazz solos, field recordings and vocals that appear as an inner-voice.
For this special occasion he is joined by his close friends and collaborators Žiga Smrdel on drums and Lenart De Bock on saxophone. Together they will present their own mosaic of the elements stated above, always daring, always in the moment.
