Born near Lake Victoria in Uganda, Herbert Kinobe (Chinobay) is a gifted Ugandan multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and composer known for his inspired synthesis of African roots and global fusion. He is dedicated to bringing love and joy to people through his music and contributing to building healthier lives and communities for children and families everywhere.
Kinobe””s first international performance was at the age of ten. By 21, he had visited nearly every country in Africa studying and playing with celebrated musicians including Toumani Diabate, Youssou N””dour, Salif Keita, Angelique Kidjo, Oliver Mtukudzi and Baaba Maal. Exposure to the bright palette of musical cultures makes Kinobe a unique contributor to world music.
Kinobe has given concerts and workshops all over Europe, North America and Africa, bringing a powerful World-roots-dance sound to festival main stages and theatres, and intimately captivating solo shows that showcase the diversity of the traditional Africa instruments he plays.
Kinobe is proud to be a World Ambassador for the Harmony Foundation (CANADA) supporting their important work on environmental protection and social development and improving the lives of children and their families around the world. Kinobe has campaigned with UNICEF to support education for girls and works extensively with schools and communities around the world on various music and education programs.
His latest CD isSearching for Survival was recorded in Uganda with his band WAMU SPIRIT and released spring 2013. Sponsored by Harmony Foundation, it is an uplifting expression of hope that people around the world can work together to make the world a healthier, more peaceful and just place to live for everyone.

Since then he has been performing internationally, captivating audiences with virtuoso performances of Ugandan roots music as well as original compositions, reflecting a wealth of African sounds and world influences. A multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter who understands the musical creation in and out, Kinobe leads his listeners into the soul of Africa with traditional instruments, songs, and stories from his homeland. His solo shows are intimate and informative, and, perfect for festivals, theatres, museums, cafes, home concerts and cultural centers. They feature the kora, adungu, kalimba, endongo, Tama, endingidi and an array of other traditional instruments.
