Fay Claassen was born in 1969 in Nijmegen The Netherlands.
Before she devoted herselves to singing she followed a training course at the academy of ballet. Subsequently she studied at the academy of acting after which she finally opted for singing. She completed her study at The Royal Conservatory in The Hague in Holland with remarkable distinctions for jazz-timing and vocal improvisation.
DOWN BEAT CRITICS POLL / Jaap Ludeke:
On the album WITH A SONG IN MY HART, singer FAY CLAASSEN pays respect to the American popular song in a jazz context that is entirely her own. Fay is worth hearing because of the sincerety with which she handles lyrics. She can scat in a solid rhytmic way and also has an attractive, sometimes breezy voice. Timbre and pitch are a joy.
CADENCE / Ellen Collison:
Fay Claassen has got a strong mezzo voice that can handle some of the most sinous, difficult melodic lines I’ve ever heard. She impovises with elan and her interpretive ability is formidable. She’s to singing what Audrey Hepburn was to the movies – elegant, effervescent and always on a dangerously seductive yet graceful edge.
